Dear Cousin,
What an fabulously entertaining blog you have, my dear! You a wonderful writer!
I dangle from the lighter branch of your Purcell-Graham family tree. Please know that this fair cousin has long concluded that Alexander Graham was, no doubt, couple of cigars short of a full humidor. The land on which his body was found, and the several hundreds of acres surrounding it, was owned and occupied by his grandfather, Alexander “Sawney” Graham, and many other Graham relatives. Crazy Alex was most certainly familiar with that whole area.
I have to wonder if Alex Graham didn’t have a touch of the Alzheimer’s himself. (Brace yourself, Alzheimer’s is not uncommon in our family.) He first hid the items at the Currie’s and then, paranoid it wasn’t safe enough, went and got it. The direction he traveled to re-hide the stuff, actually work to narrowed the gap between him and Sherman’s Army. He would or should have known this.
On another note, I’ve been adding the Grahams and Purcells of which you write to the website findagrave.com – creating their memorials, I should say. Alexander Torrey Purcell is buried in the Purcell Cemetery, Hoke Co, NC. Alexander Graham is there also. If I can help you in any way with your search, just let me know.
Oh, by the way, I found your version of the Alexander Graham vs. Sherman’s Army debacle by far the most entertaining!
Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed your writing.
Yours truly,
A. Muse
